It’s also quite possible that Grandpa didn’t even have a plan or a mission when he went to the Incipisphere, considering how little we know about how he got there (aka, nothing at all).
Quite a lot of effort, getting that enormous ship into the session just for an Incipisphere joyride/safari, not even coming face to face with any of the kids!
However, note this page:
“An old man has much to do before he returns to Earth, dies, gets stuffed by his adopted-yet-biological daughter-slash-grand-daughter, and stuck in front of a fireplace.
Taking priority at the moment is shipping two passengers long overdue for a reunion.”
So yes, Grandpa Harley had plans. And I doubt they were just to intercept a fenestrated wall and a dream!corpse.
On the subject of Intermissions and cut-aways, I also doubt A6I2 will spend much time on the whole Clown Hunting thing. Maybe it’s just me, but the way that whole plot point was introduced felt just like all the other Sudden Dramatic Plot Points That Never Visibly Amounted To Much. […] There’s no need for “Kanaya: Seek The Highblood” at this point. We’ll just see the end bit of it maybe, plus the resolution.
That’s just it, ktalaki. The “Clown Hunting” itself isn’t important. It’s just a scene transition to something much more urgent: What exactly is Gamzee doing with all these bodies?
Vriska is the lynchpin, here. We know from the foreshadowing with Jake (among other things) that she will reappear in some capacity, either via prototyping or more complicated shenanigans. Either way, as far as resurrection is concerned, what happens to her body is crucial!
I think it’s a safe bet that the next meteor snippet will address this. There could be implications for the future of the troll race in the state of those science-tubed bodies, as well. Cough cough UU unsubtle cough.
Back to Grandpa. I doubt we’ll see him again in the major narrative. Maybe a cameo in a cloud or something, but he’s served his purpose.
But he hasn’t done anything yet!!!
All the mysteries we have about him are things that are either going to stay mysteries (like his motivations) just as with the other guardians, or they’ll be answered indirectly through the Condesce (like how he got to the Incipisphere, which I still believe Bec ‘ported him to the Green Sun and then he flew the rest of the way on his ship [which is how BC would have made it to our universe too, going through Doc Scratch and then Paradox Space and then a gate above the kids’ Skaia while no one was looking] [and that’s how Grandpa got back, too, of course]).
How would they chart the course without a seer or beacon, especially in a way that didn’t take eternity? The Condesce can presumably wing it any number of years required; Grandpa Harley doesn’t have nearly the same advantage.
These mysteries are as relevant as the mystery of how PM got exiled–either the obvious solution is the correct one and we’ll never find out from the story, or not and we’ll find it out from the story.
See, you keep missing the implications of some of these details Andrew is temporarily withholding. There’s reason to believe that PM’s exile method isn’t just a frivolous mystery.
Why?
Because there was only one Genesis Tadpole. It appeared on a deadly, descending course to the Forge last we saw it, when all the kids were too otherwise occupied to save it. Gee, I wonder what could have happened to it, or if anyone is holding on to it?
Hard to think of a better candidate than a Mailwoman. :)
(Though to be fair, that theory was a lot more plausible before we knew Jade would have three years to ectobiologize another one. Something tells me she’ll run into an unknown restriction instead, though!)
Final comment: Does Typheus have to be awake in order for Grandpa to break in and find a minion somewhere and trophykill it? Possibly, since no minions were there when Beta John went through the place, but maybe Grandpa just looked somewhere deeper in the lair. He is an adventurer-explorer, after all.
Whoops I said a lot.
There are obviously ways that Grandpa could have gotten away with all this stuff in a Reckoning portal, having intentionally done something obscure as his mission to help the kids that will only be revealed later. He could have also stumbled upon odder shenanigans to place his exit in an altogether unexpected direction, as often happens in Homestuck.
There are a lot of “ways” and “could"s. But you have to admit that there’s a preponderance of evidence for him being with Jade and John.
It’s not the only possibility, just the strongest!
